On another subject, I wanted to draw your attention to a new book about the Van Sweringens recently published. It is titled Empire Builders by Lauren Pacini.

As one who has spent many hours on the history of the development of Shaker Heights and the Vans rail empire, the author has truly done a great job. He has written otherwise photographic histories of Cleveland. This one begins with the founding of Cleveland and he develops the subject of the development of Shaker in the context of how Cleveland grew on the East Side. He has also presented the subject with both text and photographs. The collection of photographs are worth the price of the book.  I wish I had been so clever to have been the author. It is available on Amazon.

Lauren Pacini is the son of Dr Pacini who was the minister at Fairmount Presbyterian Church when we would have been in school. I am sure a good number of our class were memebers there. He grew up next to the church at Fairmount and Coventry.

Sorry to say that Anna and I will not be able to attend reunion.  My children decided long ago that there's to be a family reunion week on Cape Cod at that time (It fits their various schedules!).  It will be the first gathering for everyone to attend where there is not a wedding or funeral, etc.  So instead of a reunion with fellow classmates, we will be with children(5), their spouses(5), grandchildren (7) and my ex-wife (children's mother) and her husband:  total of 21 persons.  I know that you will enjoy your reunion while we enjoy ours!

Kudos, Evie, for all your hard work in getting this reunion on its feet. I had planned to come with my husband, Quentin, but life intervened. Our grandson is being bar mitzvahed--in Prague--at the same time. We'll be afloat on the Danube, from Budapest to bar mitzvah. I'll be missing all those familiar faces nd memories. Makes me sad even writing those words. Hoping it's all you planned and hoped for.

I think a lot of our classmates stopped using this website, over the past 10 years, and know nothing about the reunion. My sincerest apologies for not being able to attend the reunion. However, in the spirit of fond memories, I dug up this photo of some of the senior class at the Mentor Headlands beach, after partying all day after graduation. Some eagle eyes can pick out the individuals in the beach gang. My fondest wishes to all. "Party On", as they say.

There is a list of "truly missing" classmates.  I was able to locate over half of them, but there are others I could not find for various reasons (too many people with similar names, some women may have gotten married & changed their names, etc.).  I might be able to find more people if I have an exact DOB, a middle name, married name, or other information.  (I emailed the webmaster about revising the list but received no response.)  If anyone is interested in helping, please let me know.  If so, I will post the reduced list, since the webmaster didn't respond, and you can post whatever additional information you might have.  (Or you can email me directly at jdwoolf@yahoo.com).
