This is from my May trip to Paris (and Vienna) which landed me in the hospital in MA for a week.

Brava Evie Fertman! YOu always come through. Dunno if I can join you since I will be flying to CLE for our family Thanksgiving. And Marianne Coplan Shapiro- you're amazing and I"d join if I could. Xoxoxoxox

Evie,

Thanks for all your work on the upcoming reunion.

Couple questions:

Will the Reunion page, on this site, be udated to the 60th reunion so the attendees will be posted?  Also, Is there any difference between  Friday & Saturday nights since they are going to be at the same place?

Thanks again.

Dear possible Choir "Reunioners": First, my correct email address is mcschapiro@comcast.net (No caps, if that makes a difference.)

Although I have continued to sing in choirs all these years, and I'm happy to try to manage this occasion,  I really don't feel that I can "direct" this in a musical sense. So, I'd be delighted if there are any of you who'd be willing to step up and conduct us.

I did find a downloadable version of the Lutkin "The Lord Bless You and Keep You," which I imagine is the one song we all remember singing together. (See the link below.) If anyone can think of any (more upbeat) additional songs (Sing We and Chant it? The Hallelujah Chorus??) that would be great!

https://musescore.com/sangerforum/the-lord-bless-you-and-keep-you-a-cappella

Second, as I mentioned previously, At this point, I have still only heard from 3 people--on the class website--who are interested in participating and/or trying to make this happen: Many thanks to Alaina Weisman(Zachary), Jan Whittemore (White) --from the UK!--and Cheryl Kushner (Lane.)

In my last note, I published a list of singers I compiled from looking through the senior pix in the Gristmill. I'm sure there are others, and you are welcome to scroll back and check that list from a couple of months ago, and/or inform me of people who I missed and might be interested. In the meantime, here are some shout-outs to choir singers (Not in alphabetical order) I personally remember, enjoyed singing with, or kept in touch with. Maybe that will motivate more of you to respond!

Richard Bloomfield

Thomas (Tom) Young

Steve Schwartz

Mark Levin,

Jim Erbe

Jon Kent

Ron Heyduck

Toni London,

Craig Miller

Marcie Ross

Patty Richards

Andrea Berman

Larry Golub

Again, let me know whether or not you're interested: mcschapiro@comcast.net.

Thanks!

Marianne

Evie, thank you.  I plan to attend Saturday night.

Marianne, I looked at the music, and I could not figure out the alto part for the Lord Bless You and Keep You.  We could just sit at the Homewood Suites and try to remember together. i can't play piano or actually read music, so just being with you is all I want. i will be at the hotel Friday and Saturday, but only going to dinner Saturday. We do not need to meet at the venue @ 4 pm.  The music is still in my head.

I also would like to know if any difference in Friday vs Saturday. What is cost?  Thanks again for your hard work.  Betsy

Adding my BRAVAs and KUDOs and YIPPEEs to you, Evie!  Michael and I are both so looking forward to my 60th (yikes!) reunion, and for sure without EVIE taking it upon herself to make this happen...  well... I suspect it just wouldn't.

DITTO all the Bravas and Kudos for keeping the Shaker64.com website alive and kicking for an entire DECADE beyond our official 50th reunion -- other than the occasional "security breach" issues.

I, too, am curious as to the difference between the two evenings?

And the difference between the two hotels - i.e. why there are 2 options rather than all of us staying in the same place?

For those of us with dietary concerns - it would be also super-helpful to see the menus -- no need for it to be a "surprise", inasmuch as there's no host inasmuch we're all paying individually anyhow!  Trust me, I suspect Michael and I will come both evenings for sure - and depending on the menu, I can always eat something first if need be - just as long as I know in advance...

Circling back to my first paragraph -- SINCEREST gratitude to EVIE, for enabling us,  now in our... mid/late SEVENTIES... to revisit our teens, and even younger ages for those of us who started out in Shaker kindergarten!!

I have just booked the LAST room blocked at Homewood Suites.. Yes breakfast is included...

Betsy Dennis (Frank)

Looks like breakfast not included at Courtyard. But need to confirm.

06/11/24 10:06 AM #1359

Evie Fertman (Braman)

Thanks, Judi, for the information on Homewood.  I called the woman in charge and she said that we still had rooms to give the discount for.  I asked her to let me know how many rooms are still available so we can add some more if necessary.  I'm doing the same thing at the Courtyard so hopefully everyone who calls by July 1 can get the discount.  When I get the information I need I'll publish it here for everyone.

Evie

I just called and got reservations without issue at Homewood.

Evie Fertman (Braman)

I just heard back from the woman at Homewood Suites.  She said that they had 23 rooms left for us at the discount and that we just had a reservation made this morning!  So thanks, Judi, for scaring Betsy into reserving today!!  I'll keep an eye on availability and post information here.

Evie. Glad u checked.  Whoever booked my room seems to,have been mistaken when she said i got,the last room.  That booking was the easy part,  flights are a lot more problematic....

Marianne Coplan (Schapiro)

Helllo again fellow Class of 64 members. Well, it looks like I won't be able to attend this year's reunion after all.

Maybe we can organize a choir gathering at some other time (or year.) Meanwble, my best to all for a great gathering!

Special note to Cheryl:  Sorry we won't be able to sing together this year.  I invite you to visit me in Chicago (a fabulous city for music of all kinds) any time that might work for you. You could even come to a rehearsal for my chorus, Women of Note. I also have a cousin who lives in Memphis, so maybe I might come to Nashville (it's not TOO far, is it?) and see you. Thanks so much for your interest and friendship after all these years! Warmly, Marianne

John A Hrones, Jr.

Could someone post the current attendance list for the reunion in August?

06/18/24 12:14 PM #1365

Alaina Weisman (Zachary)

So sorry to read that Marianne Coplan Shapiro is not attending. For me, it was the question of flight costs from New Mexico, but having a choir reunion was the best motivation!!!!  I am always in touch with Laurie Shiffman Serwit and Diane Weiner Hurwit, as we continue to age and grumble and laugh.

Joseph Blake, that croissant WAS fabulous and the florist/coffee shop was next door to the apt we'd rented for our Paris week and was in my old nabe, the 7th.

I hope you all have a fabulous time.  I wonder has anyone got any information about Judy Schultz? I haven't heard anything about her in years and she was sweet as sugar. Living in FL? Anyone know?

I write and record a nearly weekly podcast called My Senior Moment on Spotify. I created the granny photo using AI. Please subscribe and check them out. Last week's episodes were Pee Pee Palaces Abroad and Sanctuary! Sanctuary! And let me know what you think!!!!

All the best,

Joseph Blake! Joe, I would LOVE to be your date if/for the next reunion. Just listening to you talk would fill my dance card. My entire life has been one creative pursuit after another.  Curious that now, expressing what has happened to me in this wacky life, is the most rewarding of all.

This is my own personal message encouraging each of YOU who is not planning to come to our 60th reunion SIX weeks from now to seriously reconsider!  I know it's not an option for everyone, but -- how cool to be able to revisit our high school days, and our Woodbury and Byron days, and our Lomond and other elementary school days... as 70-somethings??

Remember our 55th was shortly before the pandemic turned our worlds upside down. But WE are among those who lived to tell the tale -- we're the lucky ones - we're the survivors!

Today is my 77 + 1/2th Birthday (I know, who celebrates half-birthdays?  People whose birthdays are 2 days before Christmas, that's who!!).  AND today's home delivery edition of the New York Times ran this special section "What Does Retirement Really Mean?" https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/20/business/retirement/retire-advice-life-tips.html?unlocked_article_code=1.2E0.iNvF.WIRmP3s3wc6Q&smid=url-share -- inspiring stories of "life on the other side".

Jointly these two concurrences prompted me to submit this forum post!

Michael and I will be at the Friday and Saturday events Aug 2 + 3 - after all, why not?!.  We're driving in from Chicago Aug 1 and staying at Homewood Suites Beachwood, taking advantage of the special SHHS reunion rate (including breakfast!).

Friends from other SHHS classes after (younger than) ours tell me they no longer have reunions at all.  I'm grateful that Evie has taken it upon herself to keep us connected, even AFTER our "official" 50th,  and organized our 55th and is now fine-tuning our 60th.

And I'm SO grateful to each of you who is making the effort to celebrate with us Aug 2 +3 - for sure "the more the merrier".

Hope to see YOU there!
