I am saddened by news of the death of yet another member of our class, but am also intrigued by the amazing large-scale Historic Downtown Cleveland maquettes posted as Howard's "Then" and "Now" profile photos - does anyone have any info? I think Howard was a music teacher - did he also create these amazing installations?
Howard and I went from elementary school through high school together and knew him from the core from the old neighborhood . In addition to all his musical and his other talents and attributes, he was a real mensch, in my opinion the highest compliment and testament to his life possible. He will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family. Ken Rehm
Howard, may your memory be for a blessing. You were my buddy at the reunions, my friend at Moreland, and our wonderful accompaniest in choirs. You were such a nice person, a mensch. What a loss to your family.
I did not know Howard in high school but we did exchange a few emails about his model of Public Square including the Terminal. He has pictures of it on his profile which are very interesting. That is a true labor of love. I hope it has a good home as a fitting tribute to him and his work. Perhaps the Cleveland Legacy project at CSU would have a home for it. They sponsor the link for my Van Swerginen paper from college. The contact there is Bill Barrow. Its an extensive collection.
Most importantly my sympathy to his family and his friends.
Howard was one of the Moreland mensches. His musical talent set him apart - but not as far as friends were concerned. It was at our 40th Reunion that he and I talked at length about so many things. I remember him as a compassionate and lovely human being from the very beginning...may his family take comfort in the fact that he is remembered with such fondness and gratitude. Great teachers are such gifts to all.
