Just recieved Crooked River Burning --excited about reading it. One of the chapters is Greatest Place in the Nation--made me home sick.. After we had emigrated from England in 53, we lived in Pensacola for 3 years. My father worked as a chemist for the Navy and was invited to follow Dr Dave Gillespie to Cleveland. My father worked at St Luke's Hospital from 56 until sometime in the early 70s when he moved to LOng Island where he continued research on lung issues. So I went to Aurora Elementary for 6 months, then Beehive Elementary on Lee Road, then when we moved to Shaker in December of my 6th grade year, I went to Woodbury, then on to graduate at Shaker and then on the St Lukes nursing school. As I had just recieved my book, I really started thinking about the amout of time that I was in Cleveland or the area--1956 to 1968, really longer than I realized. So many memories. I well let you know when I finish the book.

Crooked River Burning has excellent profiles of real people and events such as the world series 1948 and 1954, the Shepherd murder in 54, the newspaper strike in 62 plus bios of Dorothy Fuldheim and louis seltzer and Art Modell vs Paul Brown. Excellent material.
The author takes sOme liberties with actual personalities. The main female character is the daughter of a prominent Demo ratio leader who is bases on Ray T Miller. In the boOk he is OConnor but it almost every detail he is Ray Miller including the house on South Park.
On the other hand the author has the Van Sweringen sisters Carrie and Edith alive and living in 1948 on South Park. They lost their South Park house in 1937 and died prior to 1948. The house described in the bo
In the profile of Carl Stokes he describes Seth Taft as the son of Senator Taft Senior when he was the nephew of the senator and son of Charles Taft.
Nonetheless an excellent read to recapture the main events in Cleveland from 1948 to 1969- our coming of age period.

The house described in the boOk is the Vans house at Daisy Hill in Hunting Valley.

The Reunion was a great time. I especially enjoyed the Lomond School table for lunch at the High School. Kudos to the planners for creating three opportunities to spend time with former classmates: The Friday night party, the tour of the High School (with lunch afterwards), and the Reunion.  This made everything a lot less overwhelming since I had three chances to talk with people although, as it turned out, I still wasn't able to see everyone.     Hope to hear from people in the future.

In the weeks leading up to the reunion, I wasn't sure about how I'd feel about it. I'm so glad that I attended. To Evie and all the other planners and doers: THANK YOU. You made our 50th a huge success. I had a wonderful time, reconnecting and 1st-time connecting.

Yes, the memories of the reunion are wonderful! Joseph you mentioned Dorothy Fuldheim in your post. I remember as a child going with my father to pick her up when she lived on Euclid Heights Blvd. I think we took her downtown. The Les Roberts books really do bring back memories. Betsy

Evie, it was great to see you and participate in the reunion, which was a lot of fun. I looked at the still photos and was amazed at how many people I could identify after the reunion. I knew people from every elementary school! I shouldn't have waited so long to attend a reunion and am looking forward to the next one. Our class has wonderful people who have offered a hand up to many others. And the reunion brought back sweet memories. Next time I'll plan to contact friends earlier and spend more time in Cleveland with them.

My hope is that this site goes on for a very long time. That way I can continue to read about and communicate with my classmates.

I hope this website will remain online if only so I can continue to read LaVetter's and Schwerin's bons mots. :)

Ken, I can name that tune in 3 notes.  And yes, this site should continue indefinitely.  It has brought a lot of us together after way too long apart.  If it becomes a cost factor I'm all for chipping in to keep it going.

I'd definitely chip in too.

Hi all.  Had a great time!!  It was nice seeing everybody again after so many years.  Evile:  you and your committee did a GREAT job.  Wish I was in Cleveland to help.  Was wondering if there is going to be a book with the names and address of all the people that were found.it would be nice to know where everyone lives so we could visit and reunite if we are in there area.

Good idea, Marilyn.  I guess there might be privacy issues for some folks, though.  Enjoyed seeing and talking with you at reunion.  Goodness all those pictures showing how far back we were in Onaway.

i also second the idea of keeping up the website as long as possible.

They sell a directory but I can't remember how to order one.

I beleive that the last one - or the last one that I have - was 2007. Produced by Harris Connect, Inc., customer service: 800-877-6554.  I also believe they were the ones that did the earlier alumni directories. Friday night was great and now I'm very sorry that we did not attend Saturday night - looked like a great event.

First, thanks again to Evie; you did a fantastic job!  Second, Bill, I'm sorry you didn't make it to Saturday night; it was even beter than Friday.  Third, the last SHHS directory was 2012, also by Harris Connect.  If they keep to their timetable, another one won't be published until around 2017.

Thanks, Jeff, for that information.  I am waiting for a call back to get the information whether or not there are any books left over from 2012 to be bought.....please do NOT call Harris Publishing, let me finish dealing with the office at the Administration Building.  Jeff was correct in that the last Directory was published in 2012.  The frequency, however, is every 5 or 6 years.  Everyone who is in the database at the Shaker Administration Office receives a letter requesting updated information and is given an order form to purchase a book.

The book is wonderful - we are listed by class, by location, by profession and alphbetically.  If your name has changed the book will refer the reader to the new name.  My daughter moved to New Hampshire and I looked up everyone who graduated from Shaker who lives near her and found at least three people from our class.  Everyone who has ever graduated from Shaker Heights High School is in it.  And now with email addresses and cell phone numbers that hardly every change the book is even more valuable.  I will see to it that everyone in our class who has given us a mailing address will be on the Harris Publishing list when they start to update information on the graduates, but that won't be for a while yet.

As soon as I find out if there are any books to purchase (they ususally just run the number for which they have been pre-paid plus a few more) I will let everyone know.  You might try on EBay!  Even an older Directory is better than no Directory!!

Once again, the Committee and I thank all of you who have written very nice things about the Reunion on this site and who have phoned and emailed me personally!  The biggest reason that the Reunion was such a great weekend was that so many of YOU attended and brought with you great attitudes, memories to share and news to update us!

We just paid for another year of this web site and I will run it and keep it going for another five years when, by popular demand, we wil most likely have our next reunion.

Here's the news on the Shaker Directory.

---  The book costs $109.99 plus $19.95 for shipping and handling plus Ohio state tax.                                     ---  The CD costs $109.99 plus $11.95 for shipping and handling plus Ohio state tax.

There are 5 or 6 books and over 20 CDs available.  Call 800-877-6554, Harris Publishing to order.

In 2012 I purchased the Limited Version CD from Harris Connect. This version covered classes from 1962-1966, which was helpful, as I knew many people from other classes, especially my brother's and sisters' friends. Using this disk I was able to contact many friends before the reunion, some of whom decided to come! I wonder if this disk is still available for our class. I think the cost was around $29.95.
