LOMOND SCHOOL GATHERING?

I wonder if any of you Cleveland-based Lomond School alums can strategize a time and place when we can meet?  I notice the Moreland gang is trying to get something together. I am way too out-of-touch to be able to suggest a location, but I think it could be fun to gather just that group.

Several of us joined the Shakerites in 7th grade...Susie Horowitz, Steve Green, Katie Frischmuth, and me.  We went to Byron.

I am looking forward to this weekend.  Bought some Russian tea biscuits today.

see you soon

I thought the tour and lunch after the tour on Saturday was our opportunity to gather in some groups.  Perhaps tables for some of the elementary schools?  I'm bringing some poster board and markers -- will set up a table for Onaway people.  See you soon!

Hi Ellen

I would be interested in a Moreland reunion but as you stated it may be difficult to fit it in . I have several family obligations this week-end and also need to make a trip to Youngstown. I am not planning to go on the high school tour since I went 10 years ago when Neil Glazer was the guide

Keep me in the loop and if nothing else I look forward to seeing you this week-end

Jerry

Having a Moreland table(s) at lunch would be a great idea. Jeff Chokel and I can still sing the Moreland School song! "This land of ours is full of schools......

Saw Sharon Eichenbaum yesterday (girls' gym teacher).  Heard Lucy Burkett is still around.  Also saw Merle Glick (Byron) a couple of years ago.

Remember 8-1 Math?  How about Holzhauser and Bristol?

Just finished 43 years of teaching math!

A Moreland table at lunch sounds like a good idea. What do you think, Ellen?  Is lunch at the library?

Moreland tables at the lunch seems like the way to go.  Looking forward to it!

If a Moreland table, then one for Lomond would be terrific!

Beth Lazerick! How cool to get info about our PE teachers.  I LOVED THEM.  And remember the sword dance? Fencing?  Golf?  We were pretty privileged and it impressed me mightily.

Sorry I won't be there for the festivities, but it's been great having these communications and memories.  Beth, we also went to camp together.. which one?  Red Wing?  Red Raider?  Don't remember which.

Beth, I remember both PE teachers! I remember seeing Sharon Eichenbaum a few times over the years when I was home. I still remember both math teachers as well. I may even still have Mr. Bristol's book.  See you Saturday! Betsy

This post is for serious golfers only.

This is a once in a life time opportunity to play the golf course in your own backyard that you may not have had access to as a child.

We have a total of eight slots at 10:00am and 10:10am on Friday, August 1st.  The total cost per player is $135.  This includes a fore caddy.  The fee for golf,  $110, can be paid by cash or credit card.  The fee for the fore caddy is $25 per player and must be paid in cash.  Again, the total cost $135 which does include use of the driving range and practice facility.

Since time is short, if you would like to play, please call Bill Rosner today at (216)771-5588.

-Bill

From other comments I think there will be tables for each elementary school at the Sat lunch?  Looking forward to seeing you - Michael and I drove in today and are staying with Michael's brother Billy on Canterbury.  See you Fri evening.

Friday night event was fun and busy.  Today's tour of the high school and lunch were great tool.  The reunion committee has done a fantastic job.

Hey classmates, the reunion is costing the organizers more than they collected.  It's time to donate a little more.  Bring some extra funds to the party tonight....and see Evie.

Looking forward to our final event for the weekend!

Evie Fertman (Braman)

Wow, thanks, Pat!  So far I have had three generous donations (Pat Lamond, Liza Anthony Coven and Paige Hoebel, formerly known as Patti Fields) to help me cover over $600 of expenses (name tag lanyards and badge holders and some printing expense that you will see tonight).  I found something great in a box in my basement and had it reprinted so that every class memeber could have a copy.  I knew that our funds couldn't cover all of this but I wanted to go forward with it on my own - so Pat is right, any contributions to help me with the expense will be gratefully received!  If, hopefully, there is more money than I need to reimburse me, I will donate it to the Shaker Heights Alumni Association.  I've been on the Board for over 20 years.  We established the data base that keeps track of everyone's contact information which the school now maintains.....it's much easier with cell phone numbers and email addresses that don't change.  We grant scholarship money to deserving graduating students for college and we have established the Hall of Fame and run it from collecting nominations (send them to me EvieBraman@aol.com), to choosing the nominees, to inviting them, to running the award dinner to overseeing the recipients give a talk to the kids at the high school about their experiences attending the Shaker schools and how it brought out the best in them.  I know that I've mentioned who the inductees to the Hall of Fame are from our class but you probably don't know that our class has more inductees than any other graduating class!!

Tonight we are having a videographer - we will call out different elementary schools and you can meet with your classmates and your memories and comments will be recorded on a CD that will be available for you to buy.

Thank you all so much for coming, it has been really wonderful to see old friends again and to get to know so many of you whom I never managed to meet when we were in school together!!

There is no reason to request additional funds at this time - I believe we have the money to cover the cost of the photo nametags - by the end of the month, after paying the outstanding bills, we would let you know.  Fortunately we had several gracious classmates who made donations to our 50th reunion that should cover this non-budgeted item.

We hope all of you had a fun-filled weekend and will remember it with smiles for years to come.  See you at our 55th!
