Margie and I met in biology class at Woodbury. We immediately connected on many levels and I thought she was the nicest and one of the most attractive girls I ever met. She had me at hello. She was very popular and everyone loved Margie! I loved her circle of friends as well: Arlyn Katovsky, may she rest in peace, was also one of my favorites along with MaryAnn Schoenberg and Carolyn Aaron.
We met a few times after high school. We had a great dinner together in Miami Beach one year during Spring Break. She went to University of Wisconsin and we discussed her future plans. I'm remembering English, Languages and teaching. Throughout the years we lost contact. I did hear that she had plastic surgery correcting her nose and chin. I was disappointed because I thought she was already gorgeous. It also surprised me because here was someone who I so adored who obviously didnt think the same about herself. That was kind of a lesson of life to me at the time. How does that happen?
When I separated from my wife, I lived in Florida and Bob Chernett came to visit. I asked him if he had any contact with my secret crush all these years, Margie. He told me that Margie committed suicide in her garage, apparently despondent over the loss of her parents and a not-so-perfect marriage. I tried to find someone to mourn with so I called her husband. He hung up on me! What an experience that was. I couldnt find her brother either. I did talk to Arlyn and Carolyn, though. What a loss.
I have pictured her at every reunion wanting to connect with that positive energy. What an irony!
How very sad... I remeber Margie well from Lomond School -- when I did a "drive-by" last week I remembered exactly which house had been hers. I knew she had died, but that was all I knew. I, too, thought of her as a kid who had it all, and was really nice, to boot. We never know what pain someone else may have inside...

This reunion will be no different.
